Solely Swing

Solely Swing originated in the early 1990's around the time of the Gap swing craze that was sweeping the nation. Since then the club has been through many generations of leadership and members. We have had periods of prosperity and periods of desperity, currently (2004) we are experiencing some of our most prosperous times with regular events happening 4 times a week and dedicated members making the club work.

Swing Dancing

Swing dancing originated in the early 20th century by African Americans discovering creative ways to spend their time. In Harlem, after Charles Lindberg completed the first successful trans-atlantic flight, some people celebrated by dancing what became known as the "Lindy Hop" in recognition of Lindberg's "hop" over the Atlantic Ocean. There are numerous other styles of swing, each with their own unique story. What brings them all together is the social fun loving spirit in which they originated and continue to prosper.
