Hey everyone!
Since the club has a little money, we'd like to make a list of the things we want to buy. Go ahead and post here what you'd like to see Solely Swing acquire.

a way to tell who's who on the forum? :-)

* a boombox (the club can buy mine from me - it cost me ~$30 and hooks up to an iPod...I'll look for the receipt to get the exact amount)
* new T-shirts
* new white string lights

external harddrive to hold all music and paperwork that the club has (forms, officer info, archival stuff).

Sorry Jae, the only way to tell who's who is by giving your name as your login. I chose Captain. But so far just about everyone used their names.
Of course you could make your own Gravatar: http://en.gravatar.com/
Then people could put a face with the name.Posted 9 months ago # -
We found a receiver and 2 headsets in the storage locker today. I think that Rob was going to test them. If they are not in working order, I say that we buy a set for workshop instructors to use.

They're most likely the SVSDS's. Were they in a blacks & purple box (I think)?

Sound system for big dances! Mixer, Speakers, etc.(Saves money in the long run)
Christmas lights (We need them)
Save some of the money!
Video Recorder
Suede for shoes (Ask Emari where to buy)

2 camcorders. That way we could videotape both sets of lessons that are going on. Also, we can sign them out to dancers that are going to workshops (like the Ben and Sheri one) and they can tape it and bring back the knowledge.

We should think about having a meeting soon to vote on and buy the things on the wish list. Maybe the same night as officer elections?

I think it would be nice of us to give back to the dancers by offering cheaper lessons (at least for those tracks that are deemed "beginner"). It's just like crack--just have get people hooked.
Maybe to do some research on how we should price lessons we could send out a poll over the SolelySwing listserv that asks people what price range they would pay for a beginner lesson or intermediate lesson and then select for how long they have been dancing.

I really think that giving cheaper lessons is a trap. It is a small term bandage for a bigger issue. I say we should build up our capital. We used to have more capital and eventually overtime, things broke and we have not replaced those things. If we are to spend money, it should be on things that will improve the club in the long term.

Aren't we going to have over $6K after getting funding next year. I think at some point, that means that we don't need to charge as much for things. Just a thought.

Remember, it's always easy to go down in price. Nearly impossible to bring it back up.
Another thought in Economics. Lowering the price of a good is the easist way to make it 'cheap' yes. But the better way to make it cheap is to increase the quality of the good.
Personal opinion: I rather have that 1 person with the drive paying for 8 lessons, rather than 10 people looking for a distraction paying for 1 lesson each. Because that 1 person will be a better investment and with a better return in the near future.

Hey! Speaking of investment... Could we invest our money in the market? lolz, just a thought. Provided GM doesn't tank, and unfortunately at this point I think they're going to pull out (and go up and up for awhile), we cold probably double our money with them.
Okay, I can see this not happening...Posted 6 months ago # -
A giant tent for Relay For Life and going camping as a club? Just an idea from your Fun-raising coordinator! :) :P Also maybe look into making those boxers that say "Dance your pants off!" that Nancy once mentioned; they sounded really cool!

Hey guys.
I think that we need to make a Wal-Mart run for clear plastic bins and an organization crew for the locker so that we can get everything moved out of the disintegrating cardboard boxes into stackable bins that we can see what's in them!
We should have one box that is labeled that it goes to every event and fill that with the waivers, tape and other miscellany that needs to go.
I think that the next nice day we should do this.
